Item Details

Description

Second half 18th century, hardwood. Heavily carved frames with ebonizing and gilding, and old, if not original, worn floral upholstery. Three pieces retain original Sotheby's Denmark labels. Wear, some damage,repairs and some loose joints. Sofa, 17" seat, 42"h. 70"w., three armchairs 17" seat, 38.5"h. and one side chair, 17" seat, 37"h.

Condition

03-17-21 All three armchairs have loose glue joints where arms meet backs, one has loose glue joints on front legs, heavy wear to gilding and black paint with chips to carvings, mostly o nthe crests. Side chair has break on left side near top of back. Paint, gilding and carvings in same condition as side chairs. Sofa frame is tight. Paint, gilding and carvings in same condition as side chairs. All five pieces have heavy wear to early machine made upholstery.
