The Gentleman’s Magazine was an English periodical which first appeared in 1731. It was published without interrupt for nearly 200 years and was the first of its kind to use the term ‘magazine’. It was published by Edward Cave, pseud. Sylvanus Urban.



This November 1775 edition includes a variety of important and interesting contents including:

Description of Wingfield Castle in Suffolk

The Culture of Vines

Travels to the ‘Holy Land’

John Hutchinson’s invention to ascertain longitude

Atkin’s Voyage

Proceedings of the American Colonists continued, in which the claims and conduct of the colonists are impartially considered, and a Mode of Reconciliation proposed to be effected without bloodshed
