Description
This rare highly developed Salem, NJ sampler was worked by 10 year old Ann Allen “in the 11th year of her age”. Ann was the second to the youngest of 6 girls and 5 boys born to Enoch and Hannah (Collins) Allen. Two pairs of facing birds, baskets of flowers, several flowering motifs, a sweet and gentle verse and inscriptions with her parents names and her name, birth date and date of the sampler are at the bottom. The top section consists of five alphabets with different fonts. Note: There is a rounded darkening stain at the top and bottom. Silk on linen; 21 x 16 ½ inches sight, 26 ½ x 22 inches framed.
