1870 Cavalry Civil War 1st Three Years Battle of Gettysburg Antietam Glazier

Willard Glazier was a Lieutenant of the 2nd New York captured and imprisoned at the infamous Libby Prison. After escaping, he joined the 26th New York and served until the end of the war. Following his military career, Glazier published a number of books on his Civil War experiences including Three Years in the Federal Cavalry. In this book, Glazier describes Civil War camp life, service drills, leadership of General McClellan, and descriptions of iconic battles including the Battle of Antietam, Chancellorsville, and the famous Battle of Gettysburg!

Per Nevins,

“This well-known narrative, by an intelligent officer, is especially good for camp scenes in Virginia.”

Eichers says of this book:

“This is an early account infused with great patriotism and fervor for the war… The narrative describes episodes of mounted drill, bugle corps, Confederate guerrilla activities, Virginia citizens, and the regiments advance to the Rappahannock.”
